If Your Stirrup is Right For You . . .

• . . . your foot will sit easily in the middle of it and not rub against the stirrup sides.

• . . . it will mimic your favorite pair of shoes and not cause foot ache or foot fatigue.

• . . . it will rest comfortably against your leg.

• . . . the stirrup’s throat will not bow after time, throwing your foot out of alignment.

• . . . it will fit your foot. Just as we don’t all wear the same size boots, neither is the same size stirrup right for everyone. Just because stirrups came on your saddle does’t mean they fit your foot.

• . . . it should reflect your style and be stirrups that look good to you.

• . . . it allows your foot to slide in and out with ease.

• . . . it will have a treadwidth that feels “right,” neither too bulky nor too skinny.

The Flatbottoms Stirrup Width

Measuring 5 inches in height, the Nettles Petite Flatbottom stirrup is an inch shorter than the regular stirrup which sets it lower on the rider’s leg, thus eliminating shin pain from too-tall stirrups. The inside dimensions of 4 3/4 inches also fits the foot better.

Wide welt boots and thicker soles have grown the popularity of the Oversize Flatbottom Stirrup in leaps and bounds. It offers more width inside, measuring 5 3/4 inches at its widest part.

The Overshoe Flatbottom Stirrup was primarily designed to be used with pack boots. Like the Oversize, it too, has the same bolt to foot 6 inch measurement, but it’s inside width diameter is 6 inches as well.

The Flatbottom Treadwidth

The 1 inch Flatbottom Stirrup, the most narrow treadwidth available.

The 1 1/2 inch Flatbottom Stirrup widens the tread at the bottom by 1/2 inch over the one inch stirrup.

The 2 inch Flatbottom Stirrup has the highest volume of sales since a 2 inch tread is a comforable fit for the average size foot.

Another big seller is the 3 Inch Treadwidth Flatbottom. This stirrup is really popular with many reiners, ropers, and trail riders.
